Choosing proper footwear
Choosing proper footwear
A comfortable pair of shoes is for everyone, espeically those with diabetes. Here are some tips for your next shoe shopping trip.
- Try to buy shoes in the afternoon. Feet tend swell slightly later in the day so make sure your shoes fit when your feet are at their biggest.
- Choose shoes with a wide toe box that completely covers the toes, providing a spacious environment and full protection for the toes.
- The shoes should fit, be deep enough and have a cushioned insole.
- Go for shoes made with leather, canvas, or other materials with good breathability.
- Wear good socks. Lighter colors can help you spot any bleeding on your feet more easily.
Make sure there aren't any painful little objects hiding in your shoe when you put them on. If you have any kind of foot deformity or defect, consult a podiatrist or doctor. They may be able to provide you with custom insoles or footwear.
